In a shocking development related to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)'s Mohalla clinics, Republic TV on Tuesday has discovered that the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his ministers do not use the Mohalla clinics themselves. Sources report that a recent RTI has revealed that the AAP chief himself used private hospitals for treatment. The RTI has also revealed that even top AAP ministers like Manish Sisodia too prefer private hospitals over the 200 odd Mohalla clinics in Delhi.
Sources report that while 1000 Mohalla clinics were planned to be opened in 2015, only 100 clinics were initially opened. Recently on Saturday, Arvind Kejriwal has inaugurated around 100 Mohalla Clinics in-and-around Delhi. Sources report that most Mohalla clinics are not in functional condition.
On visiting a Mohalla clinic in Maharani Bagh, Delhi, visuals show a shut Mohalla clinic. On the sides of the clinic where the AAP's name is written and the Chief Minister's picture is displayed, visuals show many black stripes pained over it. Sources report that the Mohalla clinic has not been functional for a year, no doctors attend and patients find it inaccessible. Visuals show the interior of the clinic in a dilapidated state.
According to the RTI filed by Amit Kumar, Kejriwal and his family has spent upto Rs. 12,18,027 in treatment on private hospitals from March 2015 - September 2019. Meanwhile, Sisodia and his family has spent Rs. 13, 25, 329 on private hospitals from February 2014 - September 2019. Other ministers and their families too have spent more lakhs of rupees in private hospital's treatment over the years.
Set up in 2015 by the Aam Aadmi Party, Mohalla clinics are primary health centers located all around New Delhi offering essential health services including medicines, diagnostics, and consultation free of cost. Hailed as India's answers to a good health care system, the Kejriwal govt. had aimed to set up 1000 clinics throughout the NCR region. While 100 Mohalla clinics have been up and running since 2015, the Aam Aadmi Party opted out of the Centre's healthcare scheme Ayushman Bharat - preferring Mohalla clinics.
