MP family suffers from Polydactyly; members have more than 10 fingers

Yawale family of Madhya Pradesh suffers from polydactyly, a congenital condition in which one has extra fingers. Some family members have up to 12 fingers

The Yawale family of Betul's Aathner Tehsil in Madhya Pradesh (MP) has been struggling to find jobs for themselves and even complete their education due to a genetic anomaly in the family. Yawale family, which suffers from polydactyly, a congenital condition in which one has extra fingers on hands or toes, has been battling the anomaly to get proper education and make a living. Some of the family members of this MP family have more than 10 fingers in hands and toes making it utterly difficult for them to lead a normal life. 

MP Family Suffers From Polydactyly

Baldev Yewale said that there are 25 people in his family and that everyone is suffering from polydactyly and some of his family members have up to 12 fingers. Yawale also said his children could not complete their education and that they were bullied by others in the school. He said, "My children did go to school but they could never complete their education. The other students in the school would tease my children. I have been seeking help from the government. Our family is very poor and we do not have any land as well."

Genetic Anomaly Has Made It Difficult For Yewale Family To Get Jobs

Baldev's son, Santosh Yewale, was not able to complete his education due to the genetic anomaly and currently has been searching for jobs but is unable to find any. Santosh, who studied till class 10, said that the anomaly was a big hindrance in getting jobs as it was because of polydactyly that he could not clear the physical test of Army examination.

"I am unable to wear normal shoes and slippers because  I have a total of 12 fingers in hand and 14 on my feet. I have studied till Class 10 and also tried to get into the Army but I could not clear the physical test of the Army examination. I want that the government should help us. I did not get a job because of this. I am not getting any help from the village panchayat," he said.

However, the Yewale family has made the village quite famous with people from adjoining villages and districts often coming to visit them.
