For holding a rally in Mankhurd, Navi Mumbai without seeking "requisite permissions" during the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, a case had been filed against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in 2015. The case will be heard by Mumbai court against Kejriwal tomorrow.
In the last hearing in 2016, the Kurla Metropolitan magistrate had granted a permanent exemption to the Chief Minister from appearing in court for the case that was filed and summoned him to complete bail compliance formalities. Satish Jain, an Aam Admi Party (AAP) member provided surety for the AAP chief, which the court accepted, while Kejriwal submitted a bail bond of Rs 10,000.
Speaking to Republic TV, AAP sources claimed that, "frivolous and unsubstantiated cases being filed against a relentless anti-corruption crusade such as AAP or its MLA’ s is neither a new phenomenon nor unexpected, given the fears and insecurities of traditional parties and politicians mired in a corrupt and crony nexus with businesses and criminals. AAP MLAs were arrested in 22 cases that totally unsubstantiated and frivolous, but could nonetheless be processed as Delhi Police reports to the central ministry of home affairs."
Sources further added, "public representatives were ill-treated and their arrests were made public in order to spoil their image. However, the vendetta wreaking tactics of the BJP met their nemesis in the judiciary, as case after case was found to be false and fake and the esteemed high court warned and repeatedly scolded Delhi Police in the harshest terms for filing bizarre allegations and false cases, inspired by vengeful politics. Democracy truly thrives in an environment where outcome and innovation compete with each other to garner public opinion and support, rather than immature and insidious game plans to derail the work of a political adversary. That innocents were being framed and put behind bars has led to a popular and now ever-increasing perception that the Delhi Police is the personal cell of the BJP where they can frame political opponents, fabricate stories, file cases and put just about anyone in prison."
"AAP will always welcome politics of fair play and healthy competitiveness that is based on the endeavor for best practices in governance and civic delivery. Integrity in public life, innovation and scientific temper is the need of the hour in a developing nation like India and the political fraternity would do well to align its energies and strategies to real issues and real-time and lasting solutions to the crucial problem we face in public education, healthcare and civic delivery", said the source.
Tomorrow Arvind Kejriwal will be present in Mumbai's Kurla Metropolitan court, the hearing will begin at 2 pm.
