Mumbai Rains: Anand Mahindra hails 'unsung heroes' who allow him to have a 'normal day' amid incessant downpour

While incessant rains have brought Mumbai to a standstill affecting trains, flights and traffic, there are those who are on their feet despite the weather conditions.

While incessant rains have brought Mumbai to a standstill affecting trains, flights, and traffic, there are those who are on their feet despite the weather conditions. 

Appreciating these 'unsung heroes', industrialist Anand Mahindra in a post shared that despite the monsoon mayhem in the city and halt in various modes of commute, he received his dry newspaper on time.

In a tweet, he said: Mumbai Airport runway shut, schools closed, train stations flooded, but the newspapers arrived in my house on time & dry! I have to salute those quiet, unsung heroes who brave torrential rain just so we can experience a ‘normal day.’

As per recent update, a total of 55 flights have been diverted and 50 have been cancelled at Mumbai's key Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) on account of inclement weather including crosswinds and tailwinds that have accompanied the heavy rains that have lashed the city over the last 24 hours bringing a host of key services to a standstill and forced the Maharashtra government to declare a public holiday in the Mumbai city, Mumbai suburban and Thane districts.

Mumbai has faced heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours, with the city's lifeline - the key local train services - also impeded.

Train services on the key Churchgate - Vasai Road section of the Western Line are running without disruption. North of Vasai Road, on the Vasai Road - Virar section, frequency is at 20-25 minutes. There is some chance of delay.

According to Mumbai Police reports, the traffic has slowed down due to waterlogging at Gandhi Market, Sion, LBS Nayak Nagar, Everard Nagar, Kherwadi flyover, Amar Mahal, Khar Subway, Milan Subway, Andheri, Jogeshwari JVLR, Hansmogara junction.
