UP: Rape victim commits suicide, writes names of the accused on hand

Muzaffarnagar gang-rape victim has committed suicide at Behdi village on Saturday after being allegedly harassed by her assaulters to withdraw the case

Muzaffarnagar: A gang-rape victim committed suicide at Behdi village on Saturday, October 5, after being allegedly harassed by her assaulters to withdraw the case against them. The 24-year-old woman hanged herself from the ceiling of her house stated the police. According to media reports, the victim also wrote the names of the accused on her hand before committing suicide. 

The incident

According to the reports, the 24-year-old woman was allegedly raped by three men about a year ago. However, the accused were out on bail. Media reports further stated that the victim's father had lodged a complaint against the accused for threatening and harassing the victim to withdraw the alleged rape case against them. After her father's complaint, another case was registered with the police against the accused, revealed Circle Officer Kuldeep Kumar. Further, the body of the victim has been sent for post-mortem.

Another case in Bihar

According to reports, police have arrested seven youths in Nalanda in Bihar under the POCSO Act for the gangrape of a minor girl. The video clips of the incident went viral on social media. In the video, the victim is pleading the accused to let her go. It was also revealed through the video that the accused had threatened to kill her and make the video viral if she resisted. A male friend of the victim had tried to save her, however, he was unsuccessful. According to further news reports, the incident took place on September 16, when the accused attacked a teenage girl and gang-raped her. The girl had recorded her statement before a judicial magistrate. Reports stated that she also underwent a medical test. Further, she is being provided with counselling.
