The 'Balidaan Badge' controversy surrounding MS Dhoni's glove at the World Cup escalated on Friday as people across the country staunchly supported the former Team India skipper who had sported the insignia during India's defeat of South Africa on Tuesday. Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit too came out in support of MS Dhoni.
In a video message, Ashoke Pandit has spoken about how Dhoni has paid his respect to the martyrs on the field by wearing the 'Balidaan Badge', and this was worthy of support:
"Dhoni has paid respect to the forces on behalf of all Indians, which even he is a part of. We as citizens support his emotions and respect towards security forces," he said.
The filmmaker also mainstreamed his opinion on Twitter, highlighting India's place of eminence in World Cricket:
He put out a placard making his stand clear:
In addition, Pandit further tweeted and attacked the ICC over their stance on the scenario:
Fans across the country, whether or not they're Cricket enthusiasts, became furious and took to social media after the International Cricket Council (ICC) objected Dhoni for wearing the 'Balidaan Badge' on his wicket-keeping gloves. Scores of personalities voiced their support and strongly backed the cricketer. Ever since the International Cricket Council (ICC) moved in and pressurized the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for taking action, people have been urging Dhoni for keeping the glove for rest of the matches.
In the video message, Pandit rebutted the ICC and anyone who speaks against MS Dhoni by stating that the nation comes first. He later concluded his message by saying:
"I fully support MS Dhoni's act of patriotism and respect towards security forces. Jai Hind."
Thousands have voiced support and asked for Dhoni to retain the 'Balidaan Badge'. MS Dhoni has a recorded history of training with the Para Regiment whilst holding the rank of a Lt Colonel.
