A prayer meeting was organised in New Delhi on Monday to pay tribute to former Prime Minister late Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The meeting was attended by various political leaders across the political spectrum, including veterans like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President Amit Shah, LK Advani, Ghulam Nabi Azad among others.
LK Advani was one of the senior leaders who were very close to the late statesman. While alluding to his friendship with Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Advani said he considers himself fortunate that his friendship lasted for 65 years.
“I consider myself fortunate that my friendship with Atal ji lasted for 65 years, during which I watched him closely. Working together, we shared our experiences, watched films together and read books together,” said senior leader LK Advani.
Expressing his sorrow over the former Prime Minister’s passing away, Advani said that he never thought that he will have to address a meeting like this.
“I have addressed several public meeting, but I had never thought that I will once have to address a meeting like this, a meeting where Atal ji would not be there,” said Advani.
Further maintaining that despite his absence, his legacy will continue through his ideas and words, Advani said, “I have learnt a lot from him, I received a lot from him. Though he is not amid us anymore, his legacy will continue to live through his ideas.”
Prior to Advani, while addressing the prayer meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the former Prime Minister saying, “Atal ji’s life was for the people of India. In his youth itself, he had decided that he wanted to serve his fellow Indians. He entered politics when only one party dominated the political discourse.”
The prayer meeting in the memory of Atal Bihari Vajpayee was also attended by his adopted daughter Namita Bhattacharya and granddaughter Niharika.
Earlier on Friday, the last rites of Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was performed with full state honours in Smriti Sthal in the national capital, following his demise due to age-related ailments on Thursday in AIIMS, New Delhi. Following the cremation, the ashes were immersed in the Ganges in Haridwar on Sunday.
