All sensitive cases including the Vijay Mallya and Agustawestland cases will be personally supervised by the new interim Central Bureau of Investigation chief, Nageshwar Rao. The new development has put the speculations of sensitive cases being impacted because of the feud within the CBI to rest.

All sensitive cases including the Vijay Mallya and Agustawestland cases will be personally supervised by the new interim Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) chief, Nageshwar Rao. The new development has put the speculations of sensitive cases being impacted because of the feud within the CBI to rest.

After Rakesh Asthana, the no.2 in CBI, was hit with a graft scandal, it was being speculated that the sensitive cases which were being spearheaded by Asthana are at risk.

Amid row between the number 1 and number 2 at CBI, the Centre on the recommendation of CVC appointed Joint Director M Nageshwar Rao as the interim CBI director in an unprecedented move. Nageshwar Rao took charge as the CBI Interim Director around 2 am this morning, as per the sources.

Meanwhile, a new team has been put in place to handle the Rakesh Asthana case, after the Government decided to transfer the previous Investigating Officer Ajay Bassi to Port Blair. The new team that will probe the Asthana case will comprise of Satish Dagar, SP, Tarun Gauba, DIG and V Murugesan, Joint Director, among others.

Earlier in the day, several CBI officials, including Dy SP Ajay Bassi, the investigative officer in the Rakesh Asthana case, have been transferred. Bassi has been sent to Port Blair.

Furthermore, Alok Verma moved the Supreme Court against government order. Alok Verma has mentioned the case in Court number 1 of the Supreme Court. The case is listed for Friday.

Both Alok Verma and Rakesh Asthana have been asked to step aside till investigation is complete, as per the recommendation of the CVC. The Superintendence of investigation is under CVC as per the law. The CVC has said that since there are charges and counter charges both have to step aside for a fair investigation. Earlier on Tuesday, CBI's DSP Devender Kumar, arrested in connection with bribery allegations involving its Special Director Rakesh Asthana, was on Tuesday sent to seven days of the agency's custody for interrogation by a designated court as the CBI added fresh charges of extortion and forgery to the FIR.
