Nirmala Sitharaman Meets 28th Infantry Troops At Balbir Forward Post, Becomes The First Defence Minister To Do So

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman visited the Balbir forward post in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, along with Army Chief General Bipin Rawat. At Balbir forward post, the Defence Minister met with troops of the the 28th Infantry Division. She is the first Defence Minister to do so.

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman visited the Balbir forward post in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, along with Army Chief General Bipin Rawat. At Balbir forward post, the Defence Minister met with troops of the 28th Infantry Division. She is the first Defence Minister to do so.

Speaking of firsts, on January 17, Nirmala Sitharaman became the first woman defence minister to take a sortie in  the all-weather, long-range fighter Sukhoi-30 MKI jet.

Donning an olive green G-seat with a helmet, Sitharam took off the sortie from Jodhpur. After the sortie, Nirmala Sitharaman had called the experience memorable and the ride a smooth one.

After visiting the post, Sitharaman, along with the Chief of Army staff held discussion with Jaami-Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik at the Raj Bhavan.

The Director General of Police Shesh Paul Vaid, also met with the newly-installed Governor to brief him about the internal security situation in the state and about various welfare schemes of the J-K Police instituted for its personnel.

Former Governor of Bihar, Satya Pal Malik sworn-in as the Governor of Jammu-Kashmir on August 23.

The proclamation to impose Governor’s rule in Jammu-Kashmir was issued on June 20, after the collapse of PDP-BJP government in the state.The Mehbooba Mufti-led government collapsed on June 19 as the BJP withdrew its support from the tie-up with the PDP.
