Earlier on September 16, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Jammu and Kashmir Shaleen Kabra  announced that Panchayat elections in the state would be held in nine phases, from November 17 to December 11.

While addressing a press conference, the state CEC had said that polls would take place on November 17, 20, 24, 27 and 29 and on December 1, 4, 8 and 11 and the counting of votes would take place on the day of polls.

The MHA also said that ‘some mischievous elements’ are trying to create an impression that those SPOs whose services aren’t renewed have resigned.

“There are over 30,000 SPOs and their services are reviewed from time to time. Some mischievous elements are trying to project that those SPOs whose services are not renewed due to administrative reasons, have resigned,” said the MHA.

The MHA in its statement also hailed the state police force for its efforts towards neutralising the terrorists.

“Militants are on backfoot in J&K. 28 militants have been neutralised this year in Shopian alone. Due to pro-active actions of J&K police, militants have been pushed to corner and are being driven to desperation,” said the MHA.

Earlier in the day, the three abducted J-K policemen were murdered by terrorists in Jammu-Kashmir's Shopian. On Thursday night, the terrorists abducted three policemen and relative of another official from Kapren area of Shopian district of south Kashmir.  As per reports, 8-10 terrorists barged into the houses and carried out the kidnappings.
