In an utterly inexplicable development, the International Cricket Council, better known as the ICC, the world cricketing body, issued a tweet related to self-styled godman Asaram who was convicted in a 2013 rape case and sentenced to life imprisonment on Wednesday.
The tweet, which has since been deleted, contained a video that showed Prime Minister Narendra Modi with Asaram.
The same video has been widely circulated on Wednesday following Asaram's conviction and was also shared by Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani as part of a political attack.
The video was shared from the ICC's official handle and was captioned "Narayan, Narayan..." which at the very least, rules out the possibility of it having been shared simply with an accidental click of the retweet button.

The ICC, which is headquartered in Dubai and helmed by former BCCI chief Shashank Manohar, has issued a clarification, writing:
"ICC is dismayed at a non-cricket related tweet appearing on its Twitter feed earlier today. We would like to extend our sincere apologies to anyone who was offended during the short space of time it was up. We have launched an investigation into how this happened."
