A flood of tributes have poured in over the last day or so since the passing away of famed Cricket coach Ramakant Achrekar, under whose tutelage a number of senior Indian cricketers including no less than Sachin Tendulkar learnt the ropes. For understandable reasons, given how much India loves Cricket, it's not just former players and people who are directly related to the sport who have expressed their sorrow.
Aamir Khan knows a thing or two about Cricket -- anyone who has watched Lagaan will be more than aware of that. And he is also a friend of Sachin Tendulkar, with the pair occasionally being seen together in the stands in key matches. The actor has sent a personal tribute, which can be made out with the 'a.' he has signed off with.
Earlier, Sachin had penned a glorious and touching tribute to his old coach, writing:
Cricket in heaven will be enriched with the presence of Achrekar Sir. Like many of his students, I learnt my ABCD of cricket under Sir's guidance.
His contribution to my life cannot be captured in words. He built the foundation that I stand on.
Last month, I met Sir along with some of his students and spent some time together. We shared a laugh as we remembered the old times.
Achrekar Sir taught us the virtues of playing straight and living straight. Thank you for making us a part of your life and enriching us with your coaching manual. Well played Sir and may you coach many more.
Ramakant Achrekar passed away in Mumbai at the age of 87 on Wednesday. Apart from Sachin Tendulkar, he also coached Vinod Kambli, Sameer Dighe, BS Sandhu, Pravin Amre and many more.
