Nripendra Misra re-appointed as Principal Secretary to the PM, PK Misra as Additional Principal Secretary to PM; Both given Cabinet Ranks

The Government has appointed Nripendra Misra, IAS (Retired) as the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and Dr PK Mishra, IAS (Retired) as the Additional Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister. Both the officials have been awarded the Cabinet Rank.

The Government has appointed Nripendra Misra, IAS (Retired) as the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and Dr PK Mishra, IAS (Retired) as the Additional Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister. Both the officials have been awarded the Cabinet Rank.

In a notification issued by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Department of Personnel and Training, the Union informed that the appointment will take effect from May 31. It also mentioned that their positions will be ‘co-terminus with the term of the Prime Minister or until further order, whichever is earlier.’ 

 

Nripendra Misra had served as the Principal Secretary and the Additional Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister respectively in Narendra Modi's first term as the PM from 2014-2019 as well. The former is a 1967 batch UP cadre IAS while the latter is the 1972 batch officer belonging to the Gujarat cadre. 

Previously, Misra has held positions of Chairperson at Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, Telecom Secretary of India and Fertilizers Secretary of India. DR PK Mishra has served as Chairman of Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission, among other positions.

Last week, on June 3, it was announced that Ajit Doval has been reappointed and will continue in his position as the National Security Adviser (NSA) for the next five years, Furthermore, Doval has been elevated to cabinet rank in the Modi Cabinet 2.0 along with the extension. 

A notice of the Government of India dated June 2, has been accessed by Republic TV, stating that the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the appointment of Ajit Doval as the National Security Advisor with effect from May 31.

"His appointment will be co-termius with the term of Prime Minister or until further orders, whichever is earlier," the notice reads. It further stated that during the term of his office, Doval will be assigned the rank of Cabinet Minister in the Table of Precedence.
