#MeToo: 'The IT Cell Of Congress Party Is Under The Duress Of Giving A Positive Testimony For Chirag Patnaik,' Says Gunja Kapoor

Inspired from the west, the #MeToo campaign in India has sure gained heat with several women gathering the courage to point out sexual predators. The #MeToo campaign was ignited in Bollywood with Tanuhsree Dutta opening up about the incident that took place on the sets of the 2008 film 'Horn Ok Pleasss'. She accused Nana Patekar of harassing her on the sets of a song from the film. The revelation have encouraged several people to speak up about various incident that have left them traumatized. However, this moment is not only restricted in Bollywood, but the movement has spread its wings into the Indian politics. 

Gunja Kapoor who has consistently been supporting the Congress party, recently wrote a letter to Congress party President, Rahul Gandhi on what actions are being taken against two accused from the party of sexual harassment.

While speaking to Arnab Goswami, editor-in-chief, Republic TV during Debate hour, she said, "This case was disclosed by a member of NSUI from Chhatisgarh in June 2018. It's been almost 80 days since the complaint.I have been continuously questioning the congress president time and again, why is no action being taken."

Talking about the IT cell of congress of which Chirag Patnaik is a member, she said, "Members of social media cell of Congress party are under the duress of giving a positive testimony for Chirag Patnaik, who has been accused of sexual harassment by a young lady."

Fairoz Khan, NSUI president and Chirag Patnaik, Congress IT cell member have been accused of sexual harassment. Kapoor had written a letter demanding action against the accused. In her letter she wrote,"While certain organizations have already dealt with those outed, we are yet to see your party take any action on two people who have been recently accused of sexual harassment in the recent past.” She then proceeds to ask why were the accused not forced to step down from their position or sent on a leave of absence to felicitate a free and fair inquiry.

The survivor who had accused Chirag Patnaik of harassment had  had reported the matter to Rahul Gandhi and IT cell head Divya Spandana and yet no action was taken against the accused. Reportedly, the survivor had claimed that the complaint led to further more harassment. She had further asserted that she knew the committee formed to investigate the matter would be biased. 

The other person mentioned in Kapoor’s letter, Fairoz Khan, was accused by a woman member of NSUI that he was using abetting women of the organization to have sexual relationships with him in lieu of political posts.
