Rains can be beautiful, rains can be ugly, rains have mixed opinion like the political parties and politicians of the country. As Mumbai received its first heavy rains of the year on Friday, the same split verdict was on display on social media.

For a lot of citizens who often criticise Mumbai for various issues, the city suddenly turns beautiful when the weather gods pour.

Many of them took to  Twitter as #MumbaiRains started trending on the microblogging platform.

One wondered how it’d be possible to feel like going to work on such a beautiful day. Another quipped how one invariably gets late in such a weather and lying to the boss gets tricky, while for another, making excuses to leave early from office is a must.

Madhuri Dixit Nene was among those who was the most delighted, sharing a snap of the condensation of her home windows and captioning it, “Mumbai monsoons have arrived.”

Chai (tea) and bhajiya/pakoda would arguably be the best companion in such a weather.

But then there’s the ugly part; several parts in the city already got slightly flooded and many shared videos and also quipped if the rain gods were going to complete its quota in the first spell itself.

And last but not the least, any event nowadays is incomplete without memes and there were many that surfaced. From quipping about ‘surge dard’ referring to cab prices shooting off, calling the city a ‘water park’ and highlighting the need to be ‘savdhaan’ and ‘satark’, there were many to leave you in splits.
