The Indian Air Force successfully repulsed an attempt by Pakistan to target India's military installations in retaliation to the IAF's precision strike that decimated the Pakistani terror launchpads on Tuesday, including the shooting down of one Pakistani aircraft, the Ministry of External Affairs has confirmed.

Addressing a joint news briefing of the MEA and the IAF, MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar confirmed that Indian military bases had been the target of Pakistan's F-16s in Jammu and Kashmir's Nowshera sector on Wednesday morning at around 10:30 am, but with Indian forces in a state of readiness given the situation, the incursion was detected and foiled.

"In the aerial engagement, one Pakistani fighter was shot down by a MIG-21 Bison", the Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson stated, adding that the Pakistani Aircraft was seen by ground forces crashing in Pakistan's territory.

However, in the anti-Pak operation, one Indian MIG-21 was lost, with the pilot currently missing in action.

"We have unfortunately lost one MIG-21. The Pilot is missing in action. Pakistan has claimed the pilot in its custody. We are ascertaining the facts", the MEA spokesperson said before concluding the press briefing.

Here is the full transcript of the joint press briefing:

Earlier on Wednesday, Pakistan had sent in three of its F-16s into Indian airspace. The incursion came a day after the Indian Air Force had successfully eliminated terror training camps in Pakistan which were functioning with full impunity. The very fact that Pakistan tried to use official assets to come into Indian air space, just a day later, is only a further corroboration of the narrative that they fully support those in the JeM, the LeT and the Hizbul Mujahideen camps eliminated by India.

Republic TV has accessed a video of the aerial battle that had ensued where the Pakistani aircraft can be clearly seen taking emergency evasive measures to escape from India's fighters which gave chase, during the course of which one Pakistani F-16 was shot down. Pakistan has since blocked its media from reporting on the F-16 that was shot down.
