The speaker of Lok Sabha, Om Birla, on Saturday addressed the media after the all-party meeting and said that he is hoping for smooth and systematic functioning of the upcoming winter session. He also said that he will be forwarding every request made by the members to the business advisory committee, who will set a date and time for the discussion on the same issues during the parliamentary sessions. The Parliament winter session will commence on Monday and end on December 13.
Addressing the media after the all-party meeting, the Lok Sabha Speaker, Om Birla said, “There has been a discussion with the ministers of the floor. We will try to put forth their grievances in front of the business advisory committee and eventually discuss it during the parliamentary proceedings. All the parties have shown their faith in the forthcoming session of the 17th Lok Sabha proceedings. The way in which the first session went, the way all the leaders supported various causes, I hope the winter session is also as smooth as the previous one”.
“I hope that the temple of democracy upholds its value and we the representative of the people can fulfill their duty for the functioning of the session. I hope there are healthy discussions, debates and we raise the important issues affecting the people in the session. All the other parties have also said that they will help in smooth and systematic functioning of democracy. The issue of pollution was also raised in the meeting, I have asked the business advisory committee to review it. They have said that we will discuss the issue in the Parliament after the committee sets an appropriate time for it,” he added.
The all-party meet ahead of the winter season in Parliament begun on Saturday afternoon, November 16. Lok Sabha Speaker OM Birla had called on the meeting. Reports stated that several leaders like DMK’s TR Balu, TMC’s Sudip Bandopadhyay, MoS Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal are attending the meeting. Along with it, Parliamentary Affairs minister Prahlad Patel and Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury are also present at the meeting.
According to reports, the Winter Parliament session will likely see the opposition parties raising the issues of their concerns. Meanwhile, the BJP is expected to take forward its legislative agenda during the session and several bills. Further reports stated that the Bharatiya Janata Party is also expected to introduce the Personal Data Protection Bill. The bill deals with the handling and processing of consumer data by corporate entities while introducing restrictions and penalties.
