In Republic Bharat’s deep investigation into the 1984 riots, convict Ramesh who was sentenced to four years in prison in 1996 has revealed the role of politicians in the incitement of mobs during the carnage.
Stung by Senior Correspondent Anuj Kumar, Ramesh recounted the riots and said, “Police themselves got people killed. Police signalled that the fight is over. The ones who were hidden came out and signalled and gave orders to kill. This has also happened.”
When being questioned on whether the cops during the 1984 riots were working at the behest of politicians in the chambers of power, Ramesh said, “Everything is about politics. They are all cronies of politicians.” Being questioned on whether the orders came from Sajjan Kumar, the 1984 convicted said “when they get orders from above, that’s when something happens”.
While Sajjan Kumar was given a life sentenced by the Delhi High Court in December 2018, Jagdish Tytler is still under SIT investigation. Kamal Nath, who has been elevated to the Chief Ministerial position by Rahul Gandhi and the Congress in Madhya Pradesh, is not under investigation. However, with all three names coming out in multiple accounts through a series of sting operations, there is bound to be more pressure put to deepen the investigation process so as to nab all the culprits.
In another part of the sting operation, eyewitness accounts name Kamal Nath and one even claim that he personally shouted slogans to the tune of “Maaro, they killed our mother” in reference to the assassination of Indira Gandhi that precedented the 1984 massacre.

While Tytler, who recently got himself a front-row seat at Sheila Dikshit’s Delhi Congress Chief swearing-in ceremony, is under the SIT scanner at present, adding fresh evidence to the case, an eyewitness in this sting operation has claimed that he (Tytler) asked for a Gurudwara to be burnt in Delhi and gave instructions to “kill the adults” during the riots.
Reacting to the sting operation, Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal called for suo-moto action by the court and asked for those caught on Republic Bharat’s sting operation to be made party to the investigation. “After those who have been stung are made part of the investigation, Tytler and Kamal Nath should behind bars”, the senior SAD leader added.
