Two Terrorists Killed In Encounter With Security Officials In Pulwama

Security forces killed one terrorist in an encounter in Awantipora town of Pulwama district of South Kashmir on Tuesday, a police spokesperson said.

Update at 5:11 PM: Another terrorist has been killed in the Awantipora joint encounter. Arms and ammunition have been recovered and the search operation for another terrorist is underway. 


Security forces killed one terrorist in an encounter in Awantipora town of Pulwama district of South Kashmir on Tuesday, a police spokesperson said. The encounter was a joint operation by the Army, CRPF and the police. According to reports, the encounter occurred at around 5 AM on Tuesday. 

The spokesperson said the operation was carried out after receiving an intel input, subsequent to which a gun battle broke out between the terrorists and security forces on the outskirts of Awantipora district on Tuesday morning. Out of the three terrorists hiding inside a house in Khawanpora area, one was killed and his body was recovered by the security forces. According to official reports, the hunt for the other two terrorists is underway.

According to reports, following the encounter, a stone-pelting incidence was reported near the encounter site. This was the first anti-terror operation conducted in South Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370 by the Parliament on August 5. 

JeM Terrorist Arrested

Jammu and Kashmir Police, busting a Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) module arrested a terrorist on Monday, who was affiliated to the Pakistan-based organisation. The terrorist was nabbed from north Kashmir's Baramulla district, arms and ammunition were recovered from him.  In a press brief by Jammu and Kashmir Police, the DIG said that the terrorist, who had joined JeM on August 30 was caught in a joint operation after a specific intelligence input. 

He said, "We had specific information last night, in this. Mohsin Manzoor Salhea had joined the militant outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed on 30.08.2019 (August 30, 2019). We had the information about his movement in the area and accordingly we put up barricades. The Baramulla Police and CRPF unit caught him in a joint operation and retrieved a pistol, a magazine. As per the recoveries, he was planning a cop killing. The investigation is going on. A mission complaint against him was lodged on August 23, 2019, and he joined the terror organisation on 30 August. The main purpose is to create fear among the public. Further investigations are ongoing."
