In an outrageous statement, PC George, an Independent MLA from Kerala on Saturday waded into a controversy over his derogatory statements on the Kerala nun who was allegedly raped by Roman Catholic Bishop Franco Mulakkal of Jalandhar diocese. He also raised questions as to why she did not file a complaint when she was raped for the first time.

While addressing the media, PC George questioned the character of the nun and said:

"Do you have any doubt that she is a prostitute? She enjoyed 12 times, suddenly it became rape on the 13th time? Why didn't she complain when it happened 12 times? Where was she then? 12 times she did not say a word and suddenly complained now. There was no complaint when it happened the first time".

Earlier on Saturday, a group of nuns staged a sit-in protest at the High Court Junction bus station in Kochi demanding the arrest of Bishop of Jalandhar, Franco Mulakkal.

"We are not getting justice from the police, church authorities and the government. That is why we thought of conducting this protest. If the accused would have been a layman, then they would have arrested him easily. However, he belongs to higher authority and has money. So, they are denying the arrest," a nun said.

The complaint filed by the 46-year-old nun alleged that she was sexually abused 13 times between 2014 and 2016. The incident came to light when the victim's husband recovered an audio clip related to the case, following which an investigation was initiated by the church. The church later suspended all the priests after a complaint was filed.
One out of the four accused priests in the case surrendered on July 12.
