In an explosive remark against the Congress party, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Thursday has alleged that the party has made its Muslim leaders sign a letter stating that they will not contest elections. Days ahead of assembly polls in the state of Maharashtra, Owaisi while addressing people of Nanded in Maharashtra, has claimed that the Congress party uses Muslims for its benefit. Slamming Maharashtra's former CM and Congress leader Ashok Chavan, Owaisi said that Muslims are not the slave of Congres party. He also urged the Muslim Congress workers to join his party.
"Congressiyo, you forced your Muslim candidates to write a letter that they do not want to contest because they do not get the votes of Hindus. You are lying, Ashok Rao. Your entire politics is based on lies, and now your lies will end your career. Why are you saying that Hindus do not vote for us? Do they not vote for Asaduddin Owaisi? Hindu people of Aurangabad voted for Imtiyaz Jaleel. Do you know why they voted for him because, they said to me, that they were tired of Sena MP's constant Muslims- Hindu politics. Why are you saying that we do not get votes? But Congress wants us to remain as slaves. They do not want us to think. They want us to remain as their slaves. My brothers, we are humans, not their slaves," Owaisi said.
The AIMIM chief also urged the Muslim party workers in Congress to quit the party and join AIMIM. He said that those workers have not recieved their respect for their hard work. He assured that AIMIM stands for their right and position and if they quit their party, AIMIM will accept them. He added that AIMIM may not have as many seats as Congress party but they have a big heart. He also alleged that Rahul Gandhi won from Wayanad because 40% Muslims voted for him. Hitting out at the Cong's leadership, he added: "We vote for you, but you don't want our people to contest. You say we are the reason for your defeat. In fact, you too voted for BJP, Mr Ashok Rao."

With 288 assembly seats, Maharashtra will go to polls on October 2. It will be held in a single-phase and the counting procedure would be conducted on October 24. The BJP and the Shiv Sena duo will face the NCP-Congress duo in the polls. While Congress and NCP will contest on equal number of seats, the BJP will contest on 150 seats and theShiv Sena on 124 seats. With the massive Lok Sabha poll debacle of the NCP-Congress duo and internal tussle in the BJP-Sena alliance, the upcoming assembly elections will be a test for both the alliances.
