The government of Pakistan has tweeted a video featuring Arundhati Roy where she can be seen peddling lies about Jammu and Kashmir and Indian Army Chief General Bipin Rawat. The clip is from an old interview of Arundhati Roy, which is now being used by the Imran Khan government to push its false propaganda.

Terming Kashmir as ‘a place proliferating with graveyards’, Arundhati Roy said that the ‘Indian Muslim population is held hostage there’.

"Kashmir was, at the time of independence in 1947, Jammu & Kashmir was one of the independent princely kingdoms, one of the 500 something princely kingdoms, who were all required to decide whether they wanted to be with India or Pakistan. And, Kashmir, of course, had a majority Muslim population but a Hindu king and it’s called the unfinished business of Pakistan. You know, initially, the king didn’t decide, while partition and bloodshed was happening, also, in Jammu, which part of the state of Jammu & Kashmir. Eventually, he fled to India and and cession based on the fact that there would be a referendum, which there never was. So, it’s as I called the unfinished business of Pakistan, I mean of partition. But, India and Pakistan have been fighting over it and it has become a toxic situation, a flashpoint. The Indian Muslim population is, of course, held hostage to all the debates between India and Pakistan in Kashmir. And, we are talking about two nuclear powers. You are talking about a place proliferating with graveyards,” said Arundhati Roy.

Roy didn’t stop there and even targeted the Indian Army and its Chief General Bipin Rawat.

“In the 90s, the struggle turned militant, the army was fighting with militants. Now, the population has turned militant. Recently, the Army General said that he wished the people who were throwing stones were actually firing at him, so he could do what he liked with them. Just last month, they tied a Kashmiri civilian to a tank and, used him as a human shield and the officer who did that was rewarded, was honoured and many people in India applauded it and that’s by no means the worst thing that has happened there,” said Arundhati Roy.

The tweet featuring Arundhati Roy's video, tweeted by the official Twitter handle of Pakistan's I&B Ministry, came close on the heels of Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan's tweet wherein he raked up the Kashmir issue, condemning the killings of the two terrorists, whom he insisted on calling ‘innocent Kashmiris’. His tweet came just a day after Indian Army soldiers were shot down by Pakistani intruders along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir’s Sunderbani sector.

This is not the first time that Arundhati Roy has issued a statement, denigrating the image of India at a global platform. Earlier in June 6, the BJP slammed Arundhati Roy’s controversial interview to UK media wherein she denigrated India and Narendra Modi-led Centre government. BJP national spokesperson Dr Sambit Patra took to Twitter and slammed Roy and said she is putting down India globally. In the video, Arundhati Roy was seen and heard saying minorities in India are suffering under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, adding, “The violence in India is terrifying.”
