Twitter on Sunday blocked ISI-backed Pakistani stooge Zaid Zaman Hamid's account in India following Republic's persistent reportage and even an official complaint to the company against handles like his.
During and after the sensitive period of integration of Kashmir with the rest of India, Twitter handles like that of Hamid spread posts and videos filled with vitriol against India. One such video also distorted content from Republic's show and tried to malign the channel and paint an untruthful version of how Indians felt for Kashmiris and J&K.
After Republic exposed these social media accounts posting material with the intention to fearmonger and warmonger over Kashmir and against India, the pushback from Pakistan's propaganda machinery came in the form of a malicious campaign against the channel which was begun by Hamid. Now, that Hamid has been prevented from spreading vile amongst Indians through Twitter, Major Gaurav Arya (Retd) spoke about the channel's impact and what measures can be taken to bring down the entire Pakistan fake news propaganda machinery.
"People like Zaid Hamid are paid for by the deep state of Pakistan and they are peddlers of fake news, everything they say is fake news. They tweet fake news, they create fake videos. For whatever reason Pakistanis tend to believe people like Hamid. I am happy due to initiatives like that of Republic that he has been blocked in India. We don't need people like him spreading poison in India especially Jammu and Kashmir. You see I will tell you why this happened, it's just we don't throw enough weight around, enough pressure around, now in Republic's debate over a period of few days, its stand absolutely unequivocal and clear that we will not tolerate people doing this to India and Twitter buckled. If you are right people will listen to you, but you have to be persistent, with conviction and clarity," he said.
