Finance Minister Arun Jaitley addressed a press briefing wherein he touched upon the issue of Samjhauta train blast case. Talking to the media, Union Minister said that the Congress established "Hindu terror" theory to further its political gains but the real culprits got away. 'The UPA Government along with the Congress will have to be held accountable for the case falling flat in court', he added.

"To establish their theory of Hindu terror, a wrong set of people were framed; innocent people lost their lives (in the blast) and the real culprits were not caught," Jaitley said.

He added that people will never forgive the Congress and the UPA regime for defaming the entire Hindu Community, in a bid to establish their theory.

All four accused of the case - Naba Kumar Sarkar alias Swami Aseemanand, Lokesh Sharma, Kamal Chauhan, and Rajinder Chaudhary were exonerated by Special NIA Court in Panchkula on Wednesday, March 11th.

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi took to Twitter and targeted PM Modi over the verdict of the case and questioned if he was ‘afraid’ of Aseemanand, one of the main accused in the case. Here’s what the tweet read:

On 18th February 2007, an explosion took place in Samjhauta Express in Panipat district of Haryana that claimed the lives of as many as 68 people. Out of the deceased, 33 were male, 19 were female, 10 were male children, and 6 were female children.

"Two unexploded bombs were also recovered from the site," the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had informed.

"This terrorist act was committed by using Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) along with the highly inflammable substances, which caused blasts and consequent fire in the compartments of the train no. 4001 UP Attari (Samjhauta) Express at Panipat, Haryana," the charge sheet read.

The charge sheet alleged that all the accused were agitated and perturbed over the attacks on Hindu temple sites and towns by the Islamic terrorist groups. It further mentioned that in order to retaliate to such attacks, the accused persons conspired to target the Muslim population.

The investigation clearly established that the blasts which took place in Samjhauta Express, Mecca Masjid, Ajmer Sharif were carried out by the accused in pursuance to a criminal conspiracy.
