Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping met for the 'second informal summit' on Friday. The Prime Minister received President Xi Jinping at Mahabalipuram in Tamil Nadu. Both the leaders visited the 'Arjuna's Penance' in Mahabalipuram. They also visited the Panch Rathas and the Shore Temple.
The Prime Minister and President Xi Jinping also visited the natural monument popularly known as 'Krishna's butterball'. It is a gigantic granite rock which is very delicately balanced on a slope of hillocks by nature. The giant boulder is around 250 tonnes with a height of 6 meters and 5 meters wide.

The Mahabalipuram town deeply connects the Indian and Chinese cultures. The town had deep cultural links with China's Fujian province. China has had trade relations with Kanchi in second century BCE. The ports of Tamil Nadu were entry points for ships coming from China. Moreover, the evidence of different varieties of Chinese porcelain from the coastal sites of Tamil Nadu has proved the well-established trade contacts between India and China.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President also visited the 'Shore temple'. The temple is an example of one of the earliest representation of a structural temple in Mahabalipuram. The temple is near the bedrock near the sea. The temple has two shrines each facing east and west. Both the shrines, similar on the plan, consist of a sanctum 'garbhagriha' and a porch 'ardhamandapa'. The temple also has a depiction of Lord Shiva and Parvati with an infant child Skanda.
The Prime Minister and President Xi are on an 'informal summit' in Tamil Nadu. The Prime Minister took the president on a personal tour of the 'monuments' at Mahabalipuram. The two leaders also attended a cultural programme at the temple complex. However, bilateral talks will be held on Saturday. A one-on-one meet will be held between the two world leaders at the Fisherman's Cove resort which will be followed by delegation-level talks. Prime Minister Modi will also hold a lunch for President Xi.
