PM Narendra Modi on Tuesday gave a moving speech at the condolence meet 'Shraddhanjali' held by the BJP in the memory of former Union Minister Arun Jaitley. While paying respect to the late former Finance Minister, PM Modi became emotional while talking about his friend. Ahead of concluding his speech, where he paid his tributes to Arun Jaitley, PM Modi paused lamenting the loss of a dear friend who was younger to him. His voice cracked as he paid a tribute to Arun Jaitley.
"It is very difficult for me to say this, to pay tribute to my friend. No one should experience this. But it is my misfortune that a day has come when I have to give last tributes to my good old friend who was younger than me. I respectfully give my tribute, Om Shanti Shanti Shanti (Rest in Peace)," PM Modi said. "We were friends for so long but I couldn't pay my last respects to him, there will always be a burden on my heart because of it," he said earlier.
Among the prominent leaders who attended the condolence meet for Arun Jaitley were BJP veteran leader LK Advani, BJP president and Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP Working President JP Nadda. Amit Shah, JP Nadda were among those who spoke at the condolence meet. Arun Jaitley passed away on August 24, after being on the life-support for almost a week. He was cremated with state honours on August 25.
The Shraddhanjali event was attended by Arun Jaitley's family members. Apart from this, several Diplomats and dignitaries attended the prayers, which included leaders from the Opposition. Members of Vichar Manch which includes Sangh Parivar, Marg Darshak Mandal, and BJP's Rashtriya Karya Samiti Sadasya attended the condolence meet. The event was held at a weightlifting hall in Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi.
