PM Modi Hails Early Completion Of Motihari-Amlekhgunj Pipeline

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi remarked that he was delighted to meet Nepalese PM KP Sharma Oli via video link for the inauguration of the Motihari-Amlekhgunj petroleum pipeline. He recalled that during PM Oli's Indian visit in 2019, they had agreed on the inauguration of the completed projects. PM Modi expressed his happiness that the bilateral projects between both India and Nepal were progressing due to the joint efforts of both countries. He opined that there were age-old family and cultural ties between the two countries.

'Completed important bilateral projects'

PM Modi maintained that the people to people contact was the foundation of the bilateral relationship between India and Nepal. According to him, an amazing rapport had developed between the two countries at the highest political level during the last few years. He revealed that he had met PM Oli four times in the last one and a half year. The Prime Minister observed that their trust had deepened due to these meetings.

"Our partnership has grown based on common interests. We have taken advantage of new opportunities. The objective of our joint efforts is that our people should get benefits and fruits of development. That’s why our priority is to complete the projects on time. In the last five years, we have completed important bilateral projects. Last year, we inaugurated the Pashupatinath Dharamshala, Integrated Check Post (ICP) Birgunj," he stated.

Benefits of the pipeline

PM Modi said that the groundbreaking ceremony of the Motihari-Amlekhgunj pipeline was done last year. He mentioned that it was a very satisfying feeling for him that South Asia’s first cross-border pipeline had been completed in record time. He revealed that it had been finished in less than half of the expected timeframe. He gave the credited PM Oli's leadership, efforts of the Nepal government and the joint efforts of both countries for this pipeline.

"Due to this pipeline, 2 million metric tonne petroleum products at affordable rates will be available to the common man of Nepal. He lauded Oli for announcing a reduction in the oil prices. We are happy to partake in the development of Nepal. After 2015 earthquake, India as a close friend and neighbour extended a hand of help. In Gorkha and Nuwakot district, we have built homes," PM Modi remarked.

He thanked PM Oli for mentioning it and expressed a desire to inaugurate that project very soon. He further added that the two countries had decided on an ambitious agenda to further their partnership. Recalling the meeting of the respective Foreign Ministers in Kathmandu, he said that they had taken cognizance of the progress of various projects. PM Modi reiterated India's commitment to the development of Nepal and agreed to visit Nepal in the future.
