PM Modi in Bhutan: Top moments of the Prime Minister's visit to Thimpu's Simtokha Dzong

Strengthening the ties of India and Bhutan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is currently visiting the historic temple - Simtokha Dzong in Thimpu exchanged 5 MOUs there with Bhutan's Prime Minister (Dr.) Lotay Tshering, marking a first. MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said that the venue will be used for the first time for projects inauguration ceremonies.

RuPay and commemorative stamps launched

 Meanwhile, PM Modi launched the RuPay Card in Bhutan by making a purchase at the historic temple - Simtokha Dzong in Thimpu.

Apart from RuPay, the Prime Minister accompanied by Bhutan's Prime Minister (Dr.) Lotay Tshering also launched stamps to commemorate five decades of India-Bhutan Hydropower cooperation, at Simtokha Dzong.

Ground space station and Knowledge network launch

Earlier, the two Prime Ministers had unveiled the "Inauguration Plaque of the Ground Station for South Asian Satellite" at the historic temple.

PM Modi and PM Tshering's talks

PM Modi had already held delegation levels talk with PM Tshering where he discussed steps to further expand Indo-Bhutan partnership across several sectors, as revealed by MEA.

PM Modi's visit to Bhutan

In his departure statement issued in New Delhi on Friday, the Prime Minister said his visit to the Himalayan nation in the beginning of the current term reflects the high importance his government attaches to New Delhi's relations with Bhutan-- a "trusted friend and neighbour".

During the visit, PM Modi would hold talks with King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and his Bhutanese counterpart on the entire gamut of bilateral relations. Prime Minister Modi will also address young Bhutanese students at the prestigious Royal University of Bhutan.
