As the Ayushman Bharat programme completes one year, Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that new India's healthcare system will become a prime example for the world. Ayushnab Bharat has and will make significant contributions to India’s healthcare system, he added. PM Modi also said that, with the Ayushman Bharat programme, India has successfully been running the world’s largest healthcare system. He stated that in the coming years, Ayushman Bharat is expected to create around 11 lakh jobs.
In his address at the Vigyan Bhavan, he said:
“New India's healthcare system will become an example for the world and Ayushman Bharat will play a significant role in defining the healthcare system of India.”
The Prime Minister in his address also mentioned that in his recent visit to the United States he had the opportunity to address the United Nations and highlighted the four strong pillars of Indian healthcare. He said, “I had the opportunity to address the United Nations and tell the world how we are developing a healthy India on four strong pillars of Preventive healthcare, affordable healthcare, improvement in supply side and lastly, mission-mode interventions. To counter diseases spread by animals, we have launched steps to eradicate all diseases caused by animals. I also spoke about our steps to provide the Indian population with good and affordable healthcare and we have been putting in continuous efforts to make the access easier.”
“As the demand for healthcare is rising, we are striving to provide modern medical infrastructure even in smaller cities. In the times to come, new hospitals will be built, employment will be generated and in the coming 5 years due to the demand of Ayushman Bharat, around 11 lakh jobs will be created,” PM Modi added.
PM Narendra Modi was addressing the ‘Arogya Manthan’ organised on the first anniversary of Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojna (AB-PMJAY). Ayushman Bharat, a flagship scheme of Government of India was launched as recommended by the National Health Policy 2017, to achieve the vision of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
