PM Modi lauds Gujarati folk singer Geeta Rabari, remembers how he had told her to pursue it years earlier

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday took to Twitter to laud the singing talent of a young Gujarati folk singer Geeta Rabari. 

The young woman had dedicated a song 'Rona Sherma' to PM Modi after meeting him in Parliament. Praising the young talent, PM Modi said that he had encouraged her to pursue her passion as a child and is very pleased that she has made a mark in this field of singing.

In another Tweet, the Prime Minister lauded her undaunted spirit in pursuing her dream despite hailing from a humble background and also recognised her efforts in popularising Gujarati folk music among the youngsters. 

Geeta Rabari said that she had met the Prime Minister for the first time when she was in school. He had then givn her Rs 250 after she sang a song and asked her to keep practicing. She further said that she belonged to the Maldhari community who live in the jungle and it was only after her father received a postcard of “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” that he sent her to school. Recounting her struggles she also talked about it was a wish to contribute to this scheme which enabled her to study, and expressed the hope that other women are also able to complete their education just like she did.
