PM Narendra Modi on Thursday paid tribute to legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand. He said that Major Dhyan Chand was equipped with fitness, stamina and great ability to wield the hockey stick. He added that National Sports Day was celebrated on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, He also paid his respect to the iconic sportsman
"Those who are not going to school and have come here, I want to tell you there is a student inside you that is why you are here. I wish good luck you on the occasion National Sports Day. Today is the day we Major Dhyan Chnad ji was born. He had mesmerised the world with his fitness, stamina and his hockey stick.
"I pay my respect towards Major Dhyanchand. To launch an initiative like Fit India and from turning this concept to a movement, I would like to congratulate the Sports Ministry for it. There was a message of how to be fit using our cultures in every performance today. Even if you follow the messages on fitness in the programme, I don't even have to give the address."
PM Modi announced that he would inform about the detail of the Fit India Movement on August 29, 2019. He added that he wanted to see Indians fit. He also said that everyone should unite to set goals to make each other aware about fitness. PM Modi added that he would be looking forward to citizens' participation on Thursday. He also said he awaited participation of people in the ‘Poshan Abhiyaan’ during the month of September and especially in the 'Swachhata Abhiyan' beginning from the 11th of September to the 2nd of October.
