PM Modi Meets Japan & Malaysia PMs; Raises Zakir Naik Extradition

PM Narendra Modi met with his Japanese, Malaysian counterparts and the Mongolia President Battulga Khaltmaa on the margins of Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) in Russia. Several key issues were discussed among the leaders. Key topics included the Japan PM Shinzo Abe's visit to India later this year. PM Modi also discussed the issue of terrorism and the matter of controversial preacher Zakir Naik's extradition with the Malaysian PM Mahathir Mohammad. PM Modi also met with Mongolia President on Thursday morning.

PM Modi and PM Shinzo Abe discuss future goals on trade, economic cooperation

The discussion was very warm and cordial between the two Prime Ministers. A lot of discussion was on bilateral relationship with particular emphasis on the forthcoming visit of the Japanese Prime Minister to India for the Annual Summit that would take place sometime in December. The dates will be negotiated and announced in due course. Both leaders have agreed that the first 2+2 Ministerial meeting i.e. the Foreign and Defence Ministers of the two countries will have a meeting preferably before this Annual Summit.

PM Abe notes Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's recent visit to Japan

PM Abe mentioned Defence Minister's (Rajnath Singh) visit to Japan. He said substantial issues on taking forward exchanges and cooperations in Defence were discussed and hoped that some of the discussion would lead to outcomes during the Annual Summit. Both leaders gave a positive assessment of Japan-India-US trilateral meetings. They felt that the tradition of the Summit meeting should continue.  

Indo-Pacific trade and bilateral cooperation were also discussed. The two leaders also touched upon the topic of Africa. He said he will have further discussion on the matter during his meeting. R-Cep meet was also discussed, PM Modi specifically mentioned that India has some interest in trade and goods.

PM Modi discusses Zakir Naik's extradition, terrorism with Malaysian counterpart

PM Modi and PM Mahathir Mohammad agreed that the revocation of Article 370 was India's internal matter In that context the leaders discussed with the focus on terrorism. He acknowledged and unequivocally that terrorism is a challenge Malaysia faced. PM Modi also raised the issue of Zakir Naik's extradition. Both the parties have decided that our officials will stay in contact regarding the matter and it is an important issue. 

Mongolian President is likely to come for a state visit. India's assistance in building oil refinery was discussed. He expressed his wish to visit Bodh Gaya and Delhi. He also spoke about India's success in mitigating
