Prime Minister Narendra Modi pitched for a return of the Devendra Fadnavis-led National Democratic Alliance government in Maharashtra saying, “The Narendra-Devendra formula has been a superhit in the last five years. When Narendra-Devendra stands together, 1+1 becomes 11.” The phrase came at a concluding rally in Panvel for the Prime Minister on a day he campaigned at two other locations – Akola and Jalna.

The Konkan town witnessed PM Modi touching upon regional issues from the Navi Mumbai airport to Metro rail network to real estate and initiatives for fisherfolk. He invoked Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and said the government has taken inspiration from the legendary Maratha king for good governance and development for the people.

PM says work on Navi Mumbai airport, metros on in full swing

PM Modi claimed the work on the under-construction Navi Mumbai International Airport is in full swing and new infrastructure projects to bolster mobility in Mumbai and its adjoining areas are also underway. “Soon, aircraft will fly off from Navi Mumbai airport, vehicles will drive over the 22 km-long Trans Harbour Link road, Metro network will expand in Panvel and Thane region.”

Appeal to fisherfolk to shun plastic

The leader also appealed to fisherfolk in Konkan to reduce the use of single-use plastic in line with the government's objective to eradicate the polluting material by 2022. He also highlighted that the Centre formed a separate Department of Fisheries to address the needs and concerns of the fisherfolk community. He further called for greater efforts in water conservation.

RERA cracked the whip on real estate mafia, says PM

The speech took a political turn when PM Modi attacked Congress-Nationalist Congress Party leaders for their alleged ties to real estate mafias. “For decades, a law like RERA (Real Estate Regulatory Authority) was demanded to regulate the real estate sector. But this would have shut the shutters of income for Congress-NCP leaders,” he said. “Hamari neeti spasht hai, mafia ko maaf nahi balki mafiagiri saaf kar di jaegi (Our agenda is clear, we will not forgive the mafia but will erase such activities),” said PM Modi over a loud cheer from the crowd on the statement, adding, “Today, because of RERA, the trust between homebuyers and developers have strengthened.”

PM says two lakh houses for poor being built in Panvel

PM Modi also claimed that around two lakh houses are being built in the Panvel area for the poor under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). He also listed various government schemes aimed to promote homebuying among middle class like subsidies introduced on interest rates and tax relief on home loans.
