PM Modi delivered his condolence speech on the occasion. He said that, “Arun Jaitley was everyone’s popular friend and he tried to help all the people in every situation with the help of his outstanding talent and skills. We can imagine the aura and impact of Arun Jaitley’s personality by the things that have been written and said about him in the past few days. PM went on to talk about his personal grief over his friend Arun Jaitley’s death. He said, “Imagine for the minute what I would be going through after the loss of a friend who was loved by everyone. I cannot express the void that I have been feeling in words, but I have been experiencing it every minute after his death.”
Adding to what he said, PM Modi then spoke about Arun Jaitley’s health issues. “He was ill, and his sickness was not a recent phenomenon. From contracting diabetes at a very young, he has suffered many health issues in his lifetime. However, he never highlighted these health issues and never spoke about them. His body and soul were always dedicated to working for the development of our country.” Talking about Arun Jaitley’s professional career as a lawyer, PM Modi said, “Usually when a client visited him (Arun Jaitley), they returned with a grim face. The clients used to complain that, he was watching the TV and ordering food when I was explaining to him about my case. But when the client saw him (Arun Jaitley) fighting in the court the next day, they would be surprised by his immense dedication and flawless talent.”
The BJP veteran was cremated with full state honours at the Nigambodh Ghat in the national capital on August 25. His son Rohan performed the necessary rituals on the day of cremation. Hundreds of mourners had attended Jaitley’s cremation along the banks of the Yamuna river on Saturday, August 25. A gun salute was given to bid a final farewell to the 66-year-old BJP stalwart. Arun Jaitley was not doing very well for the last two years of BJP’s previous term. He was diabetic and underwent a kidney transplant and bariatric surgery in the past. Piyush Goyal was made the interim Finance Minister during the last few months of the previous BJP term.
