Post the mega-success of the 'Howdy Modi!' event in Houston on September 22, and after holding bilateral talks with the US President Donald Trump on September 24, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the CEOs of global companies at Bloomberg Global Business Forum in New York on Wednesday. PM Narendra Modi spoke on various economic and developmental factors like infrastructure and startups at the Bloomberg conference. In one of the key parts of his speech, PM Modi also spoke about his government's aim to achieve a $5 trillion economy.
PM Modi added that India has all that it needs to achieve its goal of a $5 Trillion economy.
“In order to achieve this big target, we have the courage, capability and the conditions”
Addressing a gathering of some of the biggest business leaders in the world, the Prime Minister spoke about his government's track-record in implementation, opining that this had enabled it to win another 5-year mandate for development. He held 'decisiveness' as one of the four factors propelling India's growth, along with 'democracy, demography and decisiveness'.
Making a strong case on multiple fronts, the Prime Minister touted the size of the Indian market, saying, "Our people are defeating poverty rapidly and moving up the economic ladder. If you want to invest in a market where there is scale, come to India."
Before coming to office for the second time post the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP had included a detailed plan to make India a 5 trillion dollar economy in its election manifesto. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his Independence day speech, had asserted that India is aiming for a 5 trillion dollar economy.
“$5 trillion dollar economy is my goal now. If every citizen starts contributing to the nation, we can achieve this. People say it is difficult but if it's not, then why strive for it? In the last 70 years, we became a $2 trillion economy and only in the last five years, we added $1 trillion. This gives me the confidence of becoming a $5 trillion economy soon,” he said.
