Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday spoke to the scientists and all others at ISRO related to India's moon mission Chandrayaan 2, hours after the loss of communication with the Vikram Lander just 2.1 km away from the Lunar surface. Speaking at the ISRO monitoring centre at Bengaluru, PM Modi spoke inspirationally about how far the scientists had travelled, how proud the country was of them, about science, and about tenacity and resilience being fundamental to Indian ethos. Calling the scientists an inspiration for the entire nation, the Prime Minister said that one obstruction cannot stop the flight of ISRO's success. He also extended his best wishes to the scientist community for upcoming missions. Below are the excerpts from PM Modi's full speech at ISRO monitoring centre on Saturday.
"You are people who toil for the nation, who work for the pride of the nation, you are the people whose passion is in the pride of the country. I know you haven't slept for many nights, yet I wished to meet you again and talk to you. Every person related to this mission was in a different phase, they had many questions, they were going ahead with courage but now they can see nothing. When the news of communication off arrived, I saw your hopeful eyes. After all the problems, you were hopeful because it was hard work. I know today there have been problems but our will power will be stronger after it. We may have been away from the moon as per our calculations, but if a poet will write about today's incident, he/she will write that Chandrayaan ran to embrace the Moon at the last level. For the last few hours, the entire nation was awake, we were awake in solidarity with our scientists, who embarked on the most ambitious project. Every Indian is filled with pride and confidence. I am with you, I have observed you and felt the same as you," PM Modi said.
"To our scientists, I want to say, India is with you. You are exceptional professionals. You have given your best always and will give us several more in the future. True to your nation, you ventured to a place where no one has ever done before. "Aap log makhan pe lakir karne wale nahi, pathhar pe lakir karne waale hain". You came as close as you could. Stay steady and look ahead."

The Prime Minister said: "I also salute the families of our space scientist. Their silence acts as major support. Resilience and tenacity are central to India's ethos. In our glorious history, there have been moments that may have slowed us but they have never crushed our spirits. We have bounced back again and gone on to do spectacular things. This is the reason our civilisation stands tall. "
PM Modi said that ISRO is a source of inspiration: "As important as the final result is the journey and the efforts. I can proudly say that efforts were worth it and so was the journey. Our team worked hard and traveled far and those teachings will always remain with us. We will look back on the journey and effort with great satisfaction. The learning from today will make us stronger and better. There will be a new dawn and a brighter tomorrow very soon. It is our culture to work hard without worrying about the result. Our history of thousand years has proven several times that we don't stop when the problem arrives. ISRO is also an example of our strong will power."
The Prime Minister also added: "We have to remember that the journey of Chandrayaan has been magnificent. During this entire mission, the country has been proud and happy several times. Right now, our orbiter is revolving around the moon swiftly. No matter wherever I was - in-country or outside - I always took information about Chandrayaan. ISRO is one of the best space stations because of your hard work. It was your hard work that you hoisted the national flag in Mars in your first attempt. Our Chandrayaan informed the world that there is water in the Moon. These were results of your hard work. We have launched more than 100 satellites together by setting a new record. When ISRO has an encyclopedia of success then few obstructions will not take your flight out of trajectory. Our culture, our mentality, our thinking teaches us that we should not be unhappy and depressed."
Quoting a Sanskrit phrase, PM Modi said 'Vayam amritasya putra'. "We are pure souls. For a pure soul, there is no depression, there is no defeat. We don't have to look back and be depressed, instead, we have to learn a lesson, we have to learn and move forward. We don't have to wait until the moment we achieve our goal. We will definitely be successful. In the next attempt of the mission we will be successful and in next all the attempts we will be successful. In the 21st century, nobody can stop us from fulfilling our dreams. My best wishes are with all of you for all the upcoming mission."

"Science is never satisfied with the results. The inherent quality of science is to strive. Results can never stop Science and scientists. This is our culture. And therefore the country is proud of you. Your dreams are higher than us. Your attempts have the strength to touch success. And therefore I can say this with full faith in your will power. I am no here to give you advice. I am here to get inspiration from you. You are a sea of inspiration and a live example of inspiration. Therefore, this is the moment of pride where the scientific mind converts depression into immense hope. I wish you all the best," he added.
After his speech, PM Modi also consoled an emotional ISRO Chairman K Sivan, reassuring him with a warm hug and several pats on the back.
