Addressing the nation on India's 73rd Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Thursday, made several landmark announcements which his government is currently working on its implementation, from New Delhi's Red Fort.

Here are his top eight statements:

'ONE NATION, ONE CONSTITUTION NOW'

Taking pride in finally integrating India with the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A, he said that Indians can now say 'One nation One Constitution'.

"Our forefathers who wrote the Constitution during the time of Independence had to take a lot of tough decisions for the integration of India. But because of article 370 and 35A, there were a lot of hurdles. Today, as I address the nation from the Red Fort, every citizen can proudly say 'One nation One Constitution'," he said.

'SOCIAL MOVEMENT FOR POPULATION CONTROL'

Expressing growing concern over population growth, he said:

"Population explosion is fatal for us and for our upcoming generation. Through self-inspiration, there is a small group that benefits his/her own family as well as the country as a whole. They stopped the population explosion, in one or two generations their family has gone to a different level altogether - they have acquired a good education, they got rid of diseases. We cannot leave a diseased society or an illiterate society. If our population is not healthy and not educated then neither the country is happy nor the family."
