Buddha Poornima is observed as the day Prince Siddhartha was born in Lumbini, attained enlightenment under the shade of the Bodhi Tree and also passed away as an octogenarian. Lord Buddha is widely believed to be an incarnation of Lord Mahavishnu is known for his eight-fold path ( Astangika-marga) and the four noble truths to enlightenment which he delivered in his first sermon.
