The infighting in Congress has exploded causing the leading members of party lock horns. There is an open rift between Rahul Gandhi and interim Congress president Sonia Gandhi, say sources. The sources add that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is unhappy about the issue. Despite her numerous attempts to quell the fighting between the mother-son duo, they don't see eye-to-eye on several issues and their loyalists have taken the fight in the press.

Differences between Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi explodes, loyalists from both camps attack each other

The differences within the Gandhis grew bigger even as loyalists like former Haryana Congress chief Ashok Tanwar openly took on those close to Sonia Gandhi. Tanwar had said that the party was full of 'internal contradictions' and that internal democracy in the party is 'killed by a few lobbies'. Tanwar exposed the Congress party, stating that, in the party system, 'well-established' people exploit other leaders. Maharashtra Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam also called out his party blamed it for its internal functioning.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra unhappy over differences

Sources close to Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said that she is not happy with the infighting between Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. The fractions have exploded into blame-game among loyalists of the two leaders. This comes with less than ten days for the state assembly polls in Maharashtra and Haryana. Sources added that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is not able to take any decision over the infighting within the Gandhi family. Priyanka tried to resolve their differences but owing to leaders like Ahmad Patel, Motilal Vohra from Sonia Gandhi's faction are not actively mitigating the situation and the UP General Secretary believes that the situation will impact the poll-bound states Maharashtra and Haryana.

Reason behind Sonia-Rahul rift

The party's internal situation is not good in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Maharashtra, sources informed. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra believes that at this time, the open display of differences between Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi will send a poor message to cadre working on the ground, sources added.  The main reason for infighting between the mother and the son is said to be of the Congress president post. Rahul Gandhi is not in favour to any Gandhi family member to take up the title, but he was overruled by Sonia, who is backed by her loyalists Ahmed Patel and Motilal Vora, sources say.
