MBBS students of World Medical College, Jajjhar, have written to President Ram Nath Kovind seeking permission to commit suicide.

The sudents have entered the ninth day of their relay hunger strike. The students are protesting as they feel that their future was destroyed due to ignorance of medical college administration, bureaucracy, and government. Earlier, the students had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking permission for Euthanasia.

A hunger strike for quality medical education 

The students have said that their medical college lacks faculty, basic infrastructure, lab facilities, and patients in hospital. The Medical Council of India has cancelled the college's permission to take new admissions.

The students have also said that that they got stuck in this useless medical colleges and end up having a useless degree without any learning or training. They are on hunger strike demanding a transfer to another medical college which has all the facilities to provide quality medical education.

Support pouring in for the protesting students

Many organisations have come out in support of protesting medical students and demanded a sensible solution of their problems. National Convenor of Progressive Medicos and Scientist forum Dr Harjeet Singh Bhatti has said, "We demand immediate attention of government to their demands as almost 82 medical colleges are having similar problems and they are playing with the lives of innocent students.

Futhermore he added, "along with showing solidarity we also request protesting students to avoid self-harm and break the hunger strike. We live in an inhuman world where your suffering won’t affect governments. So instead of doing hunger strike or suicidal attempts, fight for your rights with full strength and dedication"

Talking about the ordeal, one of the protesting students said "I would like to tell you that the son of the chairman of college is already facing the investigation of CBI. CBI caught him red-handed while taking a bribe. He was also sent to jail where he spent 10 months. Our Chairman has already been declared as an absconder by CBI court. Ultrasound machine of our college is already sealed under PNDT act. Now we are demanding from the government that either we should be shifted to some other government recognised college or we should be allowed to commit mass suicide."
