Home Minister of India Rajnath Singh has congratulated the scientists at Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on the success of ‘Mission Shakti’ with which India has become one of only four nations (US, Russia and China being the others) to have successfully downed a Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite with an anti-satellite (A-SAT) weapon.

Attributing the success of ‘Mission Shakti’ to all Indian scientists, Singh added that ‘Mission Shakti’ not just proved the ingenuity of our scientists but also the strong will-power and able leadership of PM Narendra Modi

Rajnath Singh also highlighted that the speciality of this mission was its indigenous nature as the technology used in the A-SAT satellite was entirely designed in India. He further explained that this technology has not only helped increase India’s defence power but also improved India’s stature as a ‘space power’.

Speaking on the global ramifications, the Home Minister reiterated what the Prime Minister had said regarding the mission not posing a threat to any nation, rather that it focused on India's security as well as the towards fostering sense of security around the world.

The Ministry of External Affairs had shared details on the mission:

“On March 27, 2019, India conducted Mission Shakti, an anti-satellite missile test, from the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island launch complex. This was a technological mission carried out by DRDO. The satellite used in the mission was one of India’s existing satellites operating in the lower orbit. The test was fully successful and achieved all parameters as per plans.”
