Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Narendra Modi held high-level talks on Friday. The two countries signed a number of deals, including the historic S-400 defence deal. Paving a new in the relationship between India-Russia, PM Modi said:
"It's a special and strategic tie between India and Russia. Russia has always been with India’s development journey. We welcome Russia joining India’s flagships initiatives. We will join the India Russia Business summit jointly".
PM MODI ON SPACE INITIATIVE:
"India will send a man to space for which you (Russia) have assured us of full cooperation".
PM MODI ON COMBATING TERROR:
"India and Russia are together against terror. India and Russia stand for multilateralism. We have today discussed on ways of people to people contact, especially youth awareness about both countries. This will pave a new path in our relationship".
On Friday, prior to the joint statement of the two countries, India and Russia had signed S400 Triumf Air Defence System deal worth USD 5.430 Billion. India and Russia have finalised an alternate payment method to pay for the deals signed. Deal finalised in August. Rupee payments into Sberbank.
Earlier on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted a one-on-one dinner for Russian president Vladimir Putin at his official residence on Thursday where the two leaders held a discussion on a host of issues, including bilateral cooperation and strategic issues.
Prime Minister Modi took to Twitter and extended a warm welcome to President of Russia.
"Welcome to India, President Putin. Looking forward to our deliberations, which will further enhance India-Russia friendship," the PM tweeted in Russian and English.
