'Pyaar karna koi gunha nahi he,' says Rajasthan Police's campaign after state passes bill against honour killing

In a bid to 'nip the evil in the bud' the Ashok Gehlot Government in Rajasthan on July 30 had passed the bill making Honour killing and mob lynching a criminal offence. A decision which was taken to curb the spurt of honour killings taking place in the state was further propagated by the Rajasthan Police.

In a bid to 'nip the evil in the bud' the Ashok Gehlot government in Rajasthan on July 30 had passed the bill making honour killing and mob lynching a criminal offence. A decision which was taken to curb the spurt of honour killings taking place in the state was further propagated by the Rajasthan Police.

Taking to Twitter, the Police Department of Rajasthan posted a still from the Bollywood iconic film, ‘Mughal-e-Azam’. Making use of the cult dialogue of the film, 'pyaar kiya toh darna kya' the Police campaigned for the cause of love reiterating the provisions of the bill and spreading the message that now lovers do not need to live in fear for the law is now in disfavour of honour killing.

Their tweet read,

As per the tweet, anyone violating the Honour Killing Bill 2019 will not only be sentenced to life imprisonment but can also get death penalty and will have to pay Rs 5 lakhs penalty.

Minutes into the tweet and their feed was filled with replies from netizens across all domains showing solidarity with the Police's innovative post. Many hailed the Government's move to end the anarchy caused by killings in the name of honour.

Netizens were full of praises, many even expressed how the Rajasthan Police should serve as an example for other Police departments across India.

BL Soni, the additional director general of CID (Crime Branch), said the social media campaign was for creating awareness about the government’s legislation against honour killings. Praising the efforts of his Police team he added that their social media team is very creative and posts such interesting tweets to catch people’s attention.
