As Indian Security forces launched Operation All-Out in Jammu-Kashmir, former Northern Commander Lt General BS Jaswal sent out the strongest message on religious tolerance and what the Indian Army really is.
“For me and for the Army, every religion is equal but those who betray the nation using religion as a tool, we are against them. When Army goes all-out, it is for your own good, to create a conducive environment,” said Lt Gen Jaswal.
Lt Gen Jaswal then narrated a heart wrenching story of the time when he launched a search operation in a Kashmir village way back in 1990.
“I entered a house and we had firm information that there were about 20 terrorists. I came after searching a particular house, Quran was there. I put my pistol back in the holster, held the Quran in my hand, touched it to my forehead and I said carry on. Quran is equally important to me as my Bhagavad Gita. That is what the Army is. I risked my life but I put my pistol back in the holster,” said Lt Gen Jaswal.
Meanwhile,in a shocking development, terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) on Thursday backed and praised the Congress while criticising the Governor’s rule in Kashmir. The outfit chief Mahmood Shah in an e-mailed statement said that Lashkar is of the same opinion of the Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad and other Congress leaders. He also said that by imposing Governor’s rule in Kashmir, massacre of innocents have been committed.
