Summons have been reissued to Rahul Gandhi by the Ahmedabad Court on August 9 in the defamation case, after the former Congress chief missed a scheduled appearance on Tuesday.

The Gandhi scion failed to receive the Court summons for July 9 in the defamation case wherein he allegedly made derogatory remarks on Home Minister Amit Shah.

The incident occurred during the election campaign season in Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur wherein the Congress leader called then BJP president a 'murder accused' in the case in which all charges against Shah were dismissed in 2014.

In the same speech, Gandhi leveled corruption charges against the Union Minister's son, Jay Shah.

In a speech, Gandhi had said, "Murder accused BJP President Amit Shah...waah! kya shaan hai (Wow, what pride!) Have you heard Jay Shah's name? He is a magician, he turned Rs 50,000 into Rs. 80 crore in just 3 months."

The case naming Amit Shah was allegedly over a fake encounter of a gangster, Sohrabuddin Sheikh in 2005.

On July 6, Rahul Gandhi was granted bail in the defamation case filed by Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi over his 'Saare Modi Chor Hai' remark.

The former Congress president appeared before the Patna civil court on July 6 after he was summoned by the court over the defamation case filed on April 13, alleging that Rahul Gandhi's remark ' Saare Modi Chor hai', has insulted the 'Modi Community'

During the Lok Sabha election campaign, while addressing a rally in Karnataka, the recently resigned Congress president while taking a jibe at Prime Minister Modi, had reportedly stated that all thieves had the surname Modi -- referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, bank-fraud accused Nirav Modi and former Indian Premier League (IPL) commissioner Lalit Modi.

He said, "I have a question. Why do all thieves have Modi in their names — whether it is Nirav Modi, Lalit Modi or Narendra Modi? We don’t know how many more such Modis will come out."

Following this remark, Sushil Modi had expressed his displeasure against Gandhi's remarks maligning the Modi community.
