Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday undertook a sortie in the newly received Indian Airforce's first Rafale Jet at the Merignac airbase in France. After the 25-minute 'sortie', Defence Minister Rajnath Singh addressed the media and spoke about his experience of flying in the Rafale Jet at 'supersonic' speed.
Talking about the tradition of 'Shastra puja' on the day of Vijaydashmi celebrations, Rajnath Singh said, "Today on the auspicious occasion of Vijayadashmi and Shatra Puja, taking this (Rafale) as a Shastra, I performed the puja of the newly handed combat aircraft."
Rajnath Singh took to Twitter to share pictures of him performing the Shastra Puja on the Rafale aircraft.

The Defence Minister also took the opportunity to wish everyone on the 87th Indian Airforce Day. Rajnath Singh said, " Today marks the 87th anniversary of the establishment of Indian Airforce. On this occasion of Vijayadashmi and the 87th anniversary of the Indian Airforce, I would like to extend my best wishes to all the citizens."
Calling the Indian Air Force (IAF) a shining example of exemplary courage, he took to Twitter and extended his wishes on 87th Airforce Day.

On the 87th Indian Airforce Day Parade, Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman flew the MIG over the Air Force Day parade Hindon Air Base in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. Three Mirage 2000 aircraft and 2 Su-30MKI fighter aircraft flew in ‘Avenger formation’. The fighter jets were flown by pilots who took part in Balakot airstrike.
