Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will embark on a three-day visit to Russia Federation on Monday night to co-chair the 19th India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Military and Military-Technical Cooperation (IRIGC-M&MTC). Singh will be in Russia from November 5 to November 7.
About his visit
During the visit, the Defence Minister is expected to hold extensive discussions with Defence Minister of Russian Federation General Sergei Shoigu. According to reports, the two ministers will be covering all areas of military-to-military cooperation and defence industrial cooperation. Further, Singh is expected to inaugurate the ‘India-Russia Defence Industry Cooperation Conference’, along with Russian Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov. Reports stated that the conference will be focusing on ways to promote defence industrial cooperation between India and Russia. Along with it, it will focus on technology transfer and investment in India in the defence industry under the ‘Make in India’ programme. Singh is further scheduled to visit St Petersburg where he will place a wreath at the Piskarevsky Memorial Cemetery honouring the soldiers and civilians who lost their lives during the Second World War. He may also visit the Russian defence production facilities in and around St Petersburg.

Rajnath Singh's visit to Uzbekistan
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited Tashkent in Uzbekistan from November 1 to November 3. This was the first visit by an Indian Defence Minister to Uzbekistan in about 15 years. During the visit, he held bilateral consultations with Defence Minister of Uzbekistan Major General Bakhodir Nizamovich Kurbanov. Further, the two sides also concluded an MoU on cooperation in the field of Military Medicine between the Armed Forces of the two countries. Singh and Kurbanov jointly presided over the “Curtain Raiser” of the first-ever India-Uzbekistan Joint Exercise “Dustlik 2019” on November 3.
