When it comes to politicians who have a knack for humour, Union Minister Ramdas Athawale makes it to the list.
On Wednesday the Republic Party of India chief left the members of Lok Sabha in splits including PM Narendra Modi, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi after he took a dig at the Congress president making a witty remark and later on even revealed the real reason as to why he stuck with the NDA government
In his congratulatory remarks after the unanimous election of Om Birla as the Speaker of the Lower House, Athawale, said he is happy that Rahul Gandhi got a chance to sit in the Lok Sabha, though as an Opposition member.
Moreover, sticking by the virtue of honesty, the leader proclaimed the real reason as to why he stuck with the NDA.
""Rahul ji ka birthday aaj hai. Rahul ji hamare mitra hai. Rahul ji aapko wahan baithne ka mauka mila isiliye aapko badhai deta hoon.Jab apki satta thi tab main aapke saath tha .Chunav ke pehle mujhe Congress wale bol rahe the idhar aao. Par mein udhar jaake kya karu? Maine hawa ka rukh dekha ki woh Modi ji ki taraf ja rahi hai"
(It's Rahul ji's birthday today. He is my friend. I would congratulate you that you got a chance to sit there. When your party was in power, I was with you then. Before the elections Congress leaders asked me to come on their side. But what do I do going on that side? I saw the wind blowing in that direction and went to Modiji's side.)
He further said that the Opposition is needed to run the country and to make policies, further congratulating Rahul.
The remark was taken sportingly by the mother-son duo who both were left in gags over the remark, while the rest of the Parliament was thumping on the benches and the Parliament was echoing with laughter.
Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment added, “Now, our (NDA) government will run for five years, and for another five years. Modiji will continue to do the good work. We will not let you come this side (treasury benches) so easily."
