Hours after the truth about a newspaper report - through which Rahul Gandhi leveled attack on PM Modi on the Rafale deal - was revealed, Republic TV has accessed a 2016 letter written by former France PM Manuel Valls to PM Narendra Modi, which mentions that the French govt expressed its full commitment in ensuring that the agreement between the two countries is fulfilled.
The letter, dated September 8, 2016, clearly indicates that the French govt took the complete responsibility in making sure that Dassault Aviation and MBDA France would produce their best efforts in fulfilling their respective obligations.
"I hereby confirm that the government of the French republic is fully committed in doing whatever is neecessary to make sure that Dassault Aviation and MBDA of France, each in their own respect, do their utmost to fully respect their obligations in accordance with a foresaid inter-governmental agreement and annexed supporting protocols," read the letter accessed by Republic TV.
This massive development comes on the day when the Opposition, especially Congress - citing a half-baked report - accused PM Modi and the PMO of conducting parallel talks with the French govt over pricing in the Rafale deal, despite objections by the Ministry of Defence (MoD).
Rahul Gandhi even held a press conference, referring to the newspaper report, to attack the Prime Minister. The article, through a 2015 letter, suggested that the MoD was unhappy with the PMO for interfering in the deal.
But the half-baked report of the newspaper and the lies of Rahul Gandhi were exposed after the full letter was accessed by Republic TV.
In the full note written by MoD to the Defence Ministry, there was objection to PMO's interference in the deal, but relating to sovereign guarantee, and not pricing. Further, the report formed from half-letter did not show that then Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar had responded to the objections, terming the point raised by MoD as 'over reaction'.
