Managing Director and CEO of Kotak Mahindra Bank, Uday Kotak, along with Former European Commission President, José Manuel Barroso and Economist Manu Bhaskaran spoke at the Republic TV Summit 2018 about Globalisation and how it could impact India as a country.
Speaking to Sanjeev Sanyal, Principal Economic Advisor to the Government of India, the three titans in their respective fields felt that India needs to grow at a much faster pace if it needs to be a superpower.
Uday Kotak stated that India should grow at least at the pace of 9-10% GDP for a period of 20 years if it is to reach where China is now. Further, he emphasised on the fact that if India were to become a superpower, there should be competitiveness on exports.
Manu Bhaskaran agreed with Uday Kotak on the fact that India should not just grow at a GDP of 7-8%, and improve on it while adding that the country is the only possible challenger to the two superpowers - U.S and China.
As for Jose Manuel Barroso, he spoke on the relation between India and the European Union, especially Britain, and stated that how India, despite making so much progress, has potential to do much more.
